It's a new week, which means it's time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki's South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let's get rolling.

Yeah, sure, Bobble Tiki is a little jealous. Volcano editor Matt Driscoll is down in Austin this week, sucking up free beer at SXSW in the 70-degree weather, while Bobble Tiki sways and moans at home, sipping boxed wine on his couch just like every other week of the year. It's soooo not fair. In protest, Bobble Tiki has vowed to drink all of Driscoll's Diet Pepsi in the breakroom refrigerator during his absence. That'll show him!

Aside from that small, childish act of retribution, however, Bobble Tiki is going to try not to dwell on the fact Driscoll is at SXSW and he's not. There are plenty of great things happening locally, Bobble Tiki tells himself. Who needs Austin?

Furthermore, Driscoll's absence gives Bobble Tiki the opportunity to venture to regions that typically he'd get ridiculed for - mainly, Jazzbones. Sure, the club may have veered into frat house/Mecca of shallow debauchery and Jager shots territory - but there are still diamonds in the Boneyard calendar. For instance, the venerable Vicci Martinez will once again take to Jazzbones' stage this Friday as part of what's being called an "early all ages show." Now, nitpickers could point out the fact that the "early all ages shows" make possible the ushering of a DJ to the stage later in the evening - but let's not go there. Let's simply enjoy the fact Vicci Martinez still has a stage in town that fits her power as a performer.

Other noteworthy shows at Jazzbones over the next few weeks include China Davis Friday, March 26, an Artifakt Art and Hip-Hop show Saturday, March 27 and what should be a most excellent CD release party for the very talented Ben Union April 3. Other than that, it's pretty much Kry and a bunch of DJs - but, again, let's not nitpick.

See you next week.
