It's a new week, which means it's time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki's South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let's get rolling. ...

Don't look now, but Bobble Tiki's got a bad case of Bieber Fever. Not only has he been following the Canadian boy wonder all week thanks to the Volcano's brilliant new Twitter Stalker feature - which comes at you live, via Spew, every morning - but Bobble Tiki has also developed these cute, little, ultimately inconsequential bumps under his arms and all over his legs. It's pretty adorable.

Another sure sign of Bobble Tiki's affliction is that suddenly, though he's never even eaten there, all Bobble Tiki has a hunger for is Tim Horton's. This must be Bieber Fever.

But Bobble Tiki's not going to let something like a little rash keep him down, especially when there are shows to see - damn good shows.

One of this weekend's obvious musical highlights has to be Saturday night at The New Frontier Lounge, when Umber Sleeping, Blanco Bronco, The Dignitaries and Seattle's Little Penguins take the stage. In a bill put together by Peter Tietjen of Umber Sleeping - drummer extraordinaire - there seems to be a little something for everyone. As the Weekly Volcano has chronicled on several occasions, the Tacoma-fied garage rock of The Dignitaries always goes down smooth - there's no doubt about it. And Volcano editor Matt Driscoll posted interviews with both Tietjen of Umber Sleeping, and all three members of Blanco Bronco.

But what about Seattle's Little Penguins - the out of towners that just might, if we're not careful, steal the show?

Well, the Volcano has a history with this band too. Here's what Rev. Adam McKinney had to say about the band late last year:

Professionalism in pop is something you never miss until a band comes along and smacks you in the face with it. The Little Penguins is one of those bands; they make you remember that local acts needn't be all fuzz and skuzzy attitude. They can sound like big-name bands, too. The Cure and the Smiths, in particular, are names that come to mind when listening to The Little Penguins' slick pop-rock compositions. Singer Will Hallauer's voice, all tremble and resignation, along with each song's exploding chorus gives your ears a double take as you try to remember whether the band charted in the ‘90s.

Bottom line, according to Bobble Tiki: Saturday's show at The New Frontier should be epic.

Speaking of interviews, did you hear there's talk of Gold Teeth adding a horn section for special occasions? Bobble Tiki shits you not. Gold Teeth is also talking 7-inch, but don't hold your breath just yet - we know the pace at which this band rolls. Check out the Chris Trashcan interview here, in preparation for Gold Teeth's Sunday matinee show at Top of Tacoma.

Finally, if you don't mind the fact you'll probably be deaf by age 50 - this Saturday marks the 2010 Northwest Street Punk Fest at Hell's Kitchen, featuring a multitude of speedy-fast, brutal punk bands like Portland's My Life in Black and White and Brut Squad, Boise's Aces & Eights, Seattle's Brewtal Thirst and Shot for Shot, and - finally - Tacoma's Noise.

While Bobble Tiki has an admission to make: He's not sure what the difference is between a "punk" and a "street punk,, or a "punk fest" and a "street punk fest" - he's still very excited to find out. Plus, seeing as Bobble Tiki has already, basically, just admitted he's a senior citizen living in a world meant for the young, the show's 8 p.m. start ensures Bobble Tiki will get a healthy dose of punk before having to head back to the home, down a tall glass of Metamucil, and call it a night.

See you next week.
