It's a new week, which means it's time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki's South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let's get rolling. ...

Bobble Tiki doesn't need any help feeling old. He's got it handled. Every day when Bobble Tiki crawls out of bed, he feels reminders of his age. Every night when Bobble Tiki stumbles to join Mrs. Tiki in bed, after multiple coffee mugs of boxed wine and a couple hours watching the Golf Channel, the signs are there. Bobble Tiki isn't getting any younger, and he knows it.

That said, in preparation for this week's column, Bobble Tiki got a full-on reminder of just how long he's been bumbling around the South Sound's music scene, of just how many musicians and performers he's encountered, and just how many acts he's fell in love with over the years.

On Wednesday, Sept. 15 Jeanlizabeth - a one-named singer-songwriter who Bobble Tiki fell in love with eons ago - will be stepping to the stage at Tacoma's Tempest Lounge. If ever there was a reminder of Bobble Tiki's age, this is certainly one.

Bobble Tiki admits he has no idea what Jeanlizabeth has been up to since, say, roughly 2005 - when she released her second record, Restless. A big fan of Jeanlizabeth's first solo offering, the honest, acoustic and captivating Driftwood, Bobble Tiki vaguely remembers Jeanlizabeth releasing Restless on a big night in Seattle, at EMP. Though he'll always have a soft spot in his Tiki heart for the straight forward, emotional musical approach of Jeanlizabeth, he must also admit that 2005 was, roughly, the last time he thought about her.

That is, until Bobble Tiki saw Jeanlizabeth's name on the list of upcoming Tempest events. Talk about a flashback - Wednesday, Sept. 15 has all the makings of a great one. According to online research (which can vary in reliability, as Bobble Tiki knows all too well), Jeanlizabeth is currently working on her third full-length CD, which will be aided by the help of the great Evan Purcell. Will she dip into that new repertoire at the Tempest? Bobble Tiki is no psychic, but the chances seem pretty good.

On a much more metal and leather-clad note, British Steel - a premiere Judas Priest cover (read: tribute) band from Portland will be holing up at Hell's Kitchen Saturday, set on delivering Grit City with a heaping helping of Halford-like goodness. There's no denying Tacoma is a town where something like this should go off like gangbusters.

However, as a public service, Bobble Tiki would like to alleviate some possible confusion that may be coming to Judas Priest fans.

Saturday at Hell's Kitchen Portland, Oregon's British Steel will take the stage - which is a completely different thing that New York's British Steel, also a Judas Priest cover (read: tribute) band. While the two acts probably share a nearly identical set list, and each seems to play the part of Judas Priest to near mocking perfection, there are two ways (at least that Bobble Tiki has found) to tell the difference between the two Judas Priest inspired acts.

Portland's British Steel packs a Rob Halford (Brian Allen) that looks a little sexier with his shirt off. There's no denying it.

Even better, Allen plays in the real metal band, Last Empire, which focuses heavily on wizards, dragons and unicorns - according to Bobble Tiki's PDX sources.

Either way, Judas Priest is one of the all time great bands, and there's no reason to believe Saturday at Hell's Kitchen wont be an all time great tribute to that fact.

Devil horns.

See you next week.
