Here at the Weekly Volcano we have many friends - friends in high places; friends in low places; friends with no name; and friends of the devil. We get around ... when it comes to making friends, that is.

One of our bestest friends in the whole, wide world has always been Dick Rossetti, he of Twink the Wonder Kid fame... not to mention Squirt and Guns ‘n' Rossetti notoriety. Of course, Rossetti, on a mainstream level, probably gained the most attention as a DJ on 107.7 FM The End ... back when anyone actually listened to shit like that. It was a different time. And Dick Rossetti is a different dude.

Oh, Tacoma, but you know Dick Rossetti as well as Bobble Tiki does. He's snuggly with Girl Trouble, tight bros since way back with local filmmaker Isaac Olsen and has gone tit-for-tat with Tacoma's own Cody Foster more times than most. As far as guys from Renton go, Rossetti is, like, such a Tacoman.

Saturday, Rossetti brings Twink the Wonder Kid back to town for a show at the Acme Grub Cage, plugging in with CFA and Plastards.

Naturally, Bobble Tiki caught up with Rossetti to get his take.

BOBBLE TIKI: Ah, a pairing of CFA, Twink and Plastards seems so right in so many ways. Throw in the Acme Grub Cage and it's enough to make a grown man shiver with excitement. Forgive the ignorance, but has Twink been to Tacoma since Music and Art in Wright Park? How does this gem of a city keep drawing you back? Furthermore, what dirt does Cody Foster have on you to keep getting you involved in these shows?

DICK ROSSETTI: Tacoma is like a second Renton to me, I love it! Last summer we were a three-piece. [Now] we got Chopper Fisher back on second guitar; we sound more "vegetable-free" than our last visit. Cody Foster has done a lot for the scene there over the years. With that said, his main concern this weekend is getting me a decent PA at the Grub Cage to make Twink shine. That should be a priority to him...

TIKI: The latest Twink the Wonder Kid video, for "I Don't Wanna Rock," was directed by none other than Isaac Olsen, a dude Tacoma folks know a thing or two about. Of course, this isn't the first time you've worked with him. How does Olsen's style match what Twink is all about? More importantly, did you guys really burn that Chicago record?

ROSSETTI: Isaac Olsen is the best young filmmaker in the world, bar none. He's a major talent. We just recorded new stuff and hopefully we'll be doing videos for either "chip needs to get blown" or "shuttlecock of love." He and I are also working on a new short film called "Musk," to be shot in the Tri Cities area this summer if stuff works out...Chicago was torched. I think the Kiss record going in flames was a beautiful thing, from a strictly cinematic point of view, of course...

TIKI: Twink made its return at some point last year. If you believe the Weekly Volcano, the band made a "soft return" in August of '10 at the New Frontier. How's that been treating you? Also, seeing as it's been almost a year now as "Twink," isn't it about time to change the name again?

ROSSETTI: "Duder" please!! I realized that if you wanna "make it" you gotta stick to the plan name-wise. We're going down to LA to "showcase" for labels in August, there's a signing frenzy for 40-somethings who are too stupid to know when to quit. We've recently started to drop-tune and squeezed our love sacks into some of those there "skinny jeans," or wait maybe we talked about doing it big beards and acoustic guitars. Anyway, I just wanted to say that rock is sleeping...

I liked everything I heard on those videos. But I can't help thinking and feeling, with the passionate intensity of a thousand suns, that Mr. Rossetti's band would be enhanced by keyboards, Hammon-style organ in particular. Perhaps, if the right person can be found, he will add one. And being pretty ADD myself, I understand.
