This week, Bobble Tiki's going to cut straight to the chase.

Bobble Tiki went to his high school prom, but it was not the magical evening it's often made out to be in the movies. There was dinner in Bobble Tiki's braces, hesitation in his date, and island themed souvenirs simply don't dance that well to begin with. Not even Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" could save the night from disaster.

Similarly, Bobble Tiki lived through the ‘80s, but it was not the magical experience it's often portrayed as in the movies (and he was too old for prom by that point). He never saw Molly Ringwald's underwear, he never drove a Delorean, and his Members Only jacket never actually signified an allegiance to anything besides the poorly-attended, Bartels & Jaymes lubricated Miami Vice viewing parties Bobble Tiki was known to throw. Looking back, the ‘80s aren't a time Bobble Tiki remembers fondly.

Despite this, Bobble Tiki admits to being more than moderately intrigued by the "‘80s Prom" scheduled for Saturday night at Hell's Kitchen. Organized by Tacoma-based music promoter Lonnie Local, the ‘80s Prom will also offer the band Stay Tuned - known for their rock ‘n' roll take on TV theme songs - as well as more nods to glorified nostalgia than you can shake an Atari joystick at.

So what's the scoop? Bobble Tiki caught up with Local this week to find out ...

BOBBLE TIKI: Take a moment to talk about the genesis of Saturday's '80s Prom at Hell's Kitchen. Why on earth are you doing this? What's it all about? How should one dress to attend the '80s prom at the Kitchen?

LONNIE LOCAL: First of all, Bobble Tiki, why not? I'm a huge ‘80s fan (who isn't?)... Although I was a ‘tween in that era, I'm a huge movie buff... and teen ‘80s movies are the best. This prom is all about people older and younger being able to experience there Pretty in Pink moment or be one of the "Coreys." This is about having a great time and throwing on your tight jeans and huge hair! I was a bit of a skater at the time so you'll probably see me with the side spike and OP shirt.

TIKI: The band Stay Tuned is booked, billed as the "world's only rock tribute to television." How do you expect a band built on TV theme songs to do in T-Town? From what Bobble Tiki understands the band's set will consist of classics like the Three's Company theme, the Dukes of Hazzard theme and the Mr. Belvedere theme. Is there anything in particular you're hoping the band will bust out?

LOCAL: Tacoma, I have always felt, is a huge metal town. I have brought in all sorts of acts from Seattle that I thought Tacoma would really get into... WRONG. This is another attempt to introduce something cool that we don't see every weekend. I think Stay Tuned will do well because it connects to everyone on some level, and I think the band will help with putting everyone in the time machine I'm building. I HOPE they do the A-Team theme!!!

TIKI: Why the '80s? And why prom? Neither of those things treated Bobble Tiki particularly well the first time around, so why will this time be different for him?

LOCAL: Tiki, I think that we have all said, "If I knew then what I know now." Well, this is your chance little Bobble Tiki to re-live your prom and not worry about being cool or what time your parents want you home by!
