Metal has got to be the most A-D-D music on the planet. Crash, slam, fast, slow, throaty howls, speed it up, slow it down, drums, drums, crash, anger, love, guitar solo, do it again.

But that's what makes it so interesting and successful.

Murder Your Gods, recently voted "Best Metal Band" and "Fan Pick" at the Olympia Music Awards, has that gift.

With a fresh debut EP, "Scent of Sin," under their belts, the four-piece groove and thrash band made up of Steven Donaldson (guitars/vox), Adam Bakotich (lead guitar), Jon Neville (drums) and Andrew Sitzes (bass), let me in on the development of their album, the Oly metal scene and winning the Olympia Music Awards.

Weekly Volcano: Tell me about "Scent of Sin," what were some struggles and/or strong points when developing this album?

Steve: I think the largest struggle was being able to get everyone to meet so we could practice and get everyone on the same level ... (I'd) also like to give a shout out to the neighbor who was constantly calling the police on us for playing too loud - that's metal you D-bag, so deal with it.

Adam: Some of the strong points were the draw we had at our shows and the support from the community, metal or not. We also have a drama free rapport between the current members. Another major strong point was the presence of Mark Simmons at Pacific Studios in Tacoma. He taught us so much in three days and it had resulted in some changes in how we practice as a band. The dude knows exactly what he is doing.

Volcano: How do you feel about the Oly metal scene?

Steve: Oly metal scene? What's that? Oh, us and the handful of other bands considered metal in Olympia. Let's put it this way: if we could spread metal music like radioactive particles coming down over the world we totally would. Infect everyone.

Volcano: How was winning the Oly Music Awards?

Steve: I wasn't even aware we got nominated! So my buddies convince me to go and when the time came for the announcements they called our band last and announced we had won both. At this point in the night I was hammered, (having been drinking throughout the awards show) and not expecting this, so I stumble up to the stage and start to awkwardly shake the announcers hand but instead just give her a hug. I was speechless so I just threw up the horns and said "thank you!"

Weekly Volcano: Anything else?

Steve: Start getting ready to have your faces ripped off with new music we are working on.

Adam: Murder your gods; free your souls!
