For 30 years K Records in Olympia has been an integral part of the music scene here in the Pacific Northwest and around the world.

From the people that released Beat Happening, Kimya Dawson, Karp, Fitz of Depression and so many others, K records presents the seventh annual Helsing Junction Sleepover this weekend, an event that's three days of music, movies and fun.

"It's not an event where people stress," says Danielle Ruse, promotions director. "They just come together to be together."

Set at Helsing Farm in Rochester, the festival encourages camping and welcomes families. There is a river that runs through the property (bring your swimsuit!) and fresh organic produce harvested from the farm will be available for purchase.

"It's K's 30th anniversary, so this sleepover is super-special," says Ruse in a press release, "I think I'm going to get us a giant cake, and we'll have commemorative hoodies (K merchandise is really hard to come by, and we only make small batches once in a while.) So pack up your cars and come hang with us for our seventh year under the stars!  Dance with Calvin into the wee hours of the morning, and help us celebrate thirty years of K!"

Calvin Johnson, owner of K Records, is a household name for indie music lovers across the globe, known for his quirky style, heartfelt music and affinity for cassette tapes.

Fresh off tour, Johnson will play with The Hive Dwellers on Saturday.

Other bands set to perform, as well as DJ Joel and DJ Joey Casio, are as follows, and are in no particular order.

Gary May, Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets,Arrington DeDionyso's Malaikat Dan Singa, Tender ForeverPETS, Shivas, The Curious Mystery, the Memories, Nucular AminalsHystericsLAKEMt. EerieMaxines, Danny Kelly, Briana Marela, Craig Extine & the Exiles, Brainstorm, Alexander's Real Time Band, The Solvents, T Kette, Jeffrey Jerusalem, Liv Carrow,Houndstooth, Safe, Sandman, Kendl Winter andVanessa Renwick.

Of particular interest, at least in Ruse's opinion, is Arrington DeDionyso's Malaikat Dan Singa.

"The last time I saw him perform, I was like ‘You've got to be kidding me!'" says Ruse. "He uses Cuban throat singing - like when dudes belch, in fact, I think that's how he got started. His clarinet playing is tremendous and he's just a powerhouse of energy."

Helsing tickets are available now online at www.krecs.com/helsingjunction. Cost is $40 for the full weekend pass, and $20 camping for one night and $15 for a full day without camping.  Children 12 and younger are free. It is cash only and there are no dogs allowed at the event.
