Since I generally focus on music that is rooted and written in Tacoma, I seldom write about an upcoming show at the Tacoma Dome. In fact, I have actually never as much as mentioned the venue that is the main - and pretty much only - tour stop in Tacoma for larger acts. It has not been a conscious decision to ostracize the Tacoma landmark from my column, because the wooden dome of a concert arena does have a special place in my heart. It is where I attended my first large concert, and where I have seen many fantastic bands since. I just haven't felt compelled to write about a venue that in the recent past has had such a slew of terrible names on the bill. Just last week, at an acoustic performance a friend and I were putting on, we jokingly thanked the audience for attending our show instead of Taylor Swift's at the T-Dome.

But there is an upcoming show at our great city's crown jewel of a venue that is worth a mention: Drake is scheduled to play the Tacoma Dome on Dec. 4.

Of course, our first exposure to Drake was his role in the television show Degrassi. But when he self-released a mix tape in 2006, he quickly began to accumulate recognition for himself as a musician. Collaborating with the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna and Jay-Z, Drake was already established as a successful artist in the music industry by the time his first official album was released in June 2010. By 2011, he had every kid at my high school saying "YOLO" every chance they got. Now with his own record company, October's Very Own, Drake has become one of the most successful rap artists in terms of record sales and recognition by fans and his contemporaries.

So with such an anticipated concert approaching, I've finally decided to give you a heads up about what to expect on the Tacoma Dome's bill. With such an iconic artist of our generation planning a visit, I couldn't resist but write about the only venue that rightfully has a place in our city's skyline.
