On Thursday, March 2, the Washington State History Museum in downtown Tacoma will rock with the sounds of the 90s while patrons sample tasty brews from Three Magnets Brewing Company in Olympia. Presented by the Washington State History Museum, Three Magnets Brewing and Obee Credit Union, the Music to My Beers event will highlight two of the museum's current exhibits: "A Revolution You Can Dance To: Indie Music in the Northwest," and "Steins, Vines and Grinds: Washington's Story of Beer, Wine and Coffee," both of which are on display through Sunday, April 23.

"We've made a mash-up of our two biggest exhibits," said Erich Ebel, the Washington State History Museum's marketing and communications director, "and the result will be a special evening filled with craft beer tasting and local 90s indie music. Three Magnets has created four specialty brews inspired by artists and events from that time in Washington history just for this occasion, and we're proud to partner with them for Music to My Beers."

Admission to the 21 and over event is $15 in advance and $20 at the door and, in addition to the music of 90s era local indie bands, will include  "a commemorative tasting glass, five beer-tasting tickets, full access to both exhibits, and loads of fun beer and music-related activities including trivia contests, zine making, coaster making, button making ... and more," said Ebel. "In addition, I'm told that several of the bands featured in the ‘A Revolution You Can Dance To' exhibit will have former members in attendance, so there's always the chance to snap a selfie with an Oly punk pioneer!"

"Music to my Beers is a perfect way to combine two great genres - beer history and indie music in the south sound - and we're excited to be a part of it," said Nathan Reilly, proprietor of the Olympia-based Three Magnets Brewing Co.

The featured beers will include:

• Hazy Hero IPA - brewed in collaboration with indie musician John Atkins, this IPA commemorates the 21st anniversary of the release of 764-HERO's Salt Sinks and Sugar Floats album.

• Art Chantry's Imperial Bitter - developed with the assistance of Art Chantry, the graphic designer behind assorted indie posters and album covers.

• YoYo a GoGo Belgian Dubbel - Olympia musician and YoYo Records founder Pat Malloy  worked with Three Magnets on this unique brew.

• Free Things Are Cool Stock Ale - Diana Arens, audio engineer at Dub Narcotic and YoYo Records, was the collaborator on this tasty ale.

The money raised from Music to My Beers will benefit the Washington State History Museum, but the main purpose of the evening is to celebrate two unique aspects of this state's colorful history: craft beer and indie music.
