I recently volunteered to review the new Melvins record, "Hold It In," released, of course, on Mike Patton's Ipecac Recording, Oct. 14. Those close to me probably got a laugh at that sentence.
Milk Music: "Cruise Your Illusion"
"Cruise Your Illusion" is 12 fuzzed out, riff heavy songs sung in an off kilter, strained voice; sonically less akin to Dinosaur Jr. and more in line with Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
The Beauty Between is every bit as good as masterworks of its pop-punk genre.
Survival Knife: "Traces of Me" / "Name That Tune"
With a b-side like "Name That Tune" it is no wonder why the band have picked up the attention of Sub Pop, Kill Rock Stars and Modest Mouse in short order.
Candle Lit: Damien Jurado, Jake Hemming and Amelia Saakian
The Urban Grace Church, the sold-out seats and glowing candelabras played a lovely backdrop to a night that allowed Amelia Saakian, Jake Hemming and Damien Jurado to shine.
Humble Cub's "Telegram From Your Future Life"
