Scottish-American comedian and TV host Craig Ferguson, currently the star of both Celebrity Name Game and Join or Die With Craig Ferguson, first drew attention stateside as Mr. Wick, the stuffy boss on The Drew Carey Show. These days, in addition to his syndicated game show and History Channel panel show, he's the author of a 2006 novel, Between the Bridge and the River, a title suggested by a Jesuit priest's meditation on suicide. He's plugging away at a sequel, perhaps even a threequel. His 2009 memoir, published two years after he was granted U.S. citizenship, was called American on Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot. Fans of Ferguson's 2005-2014 stint as host of The Late Late Show on CBS may recall he already received honorary citizenship in 15 American states.

He's a Grammy nominee for his narration of the American on Purpose audiobook and a Daytime Emmy winner for hosting Celebrity Name Game. He does regular voices for cartoons, and he's been touring for years as a standup comedian. His most recent Netflix special, I'm Here to Help, earned another Grammy nomination, this time for Best Comedy Album. Does Ferguson ever sleep?

If you ever get an interview with Craig Ferguson, ask about his deep Doctor Who fandom. He was in a punk band, The Dreamboys, with 12th (and current) Time Lord Peter Capaldi. "I don't know how it happened," he told Bravo's Andy Cohen when asked how they broke out of Glasgow. "When the rest of the guys were going to either Emerson or Harvard, I was taking acid in the back of a van with the guy who ended up playing the Doctor."

Craig Ferguson, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway, Tacoma, $19-$69, 253.591.5894, broadwaycenter.org
