During the Great Depression, a gift of meat or other scarce food items was treasured, loosely translated as "I love you" or "You're very important to me." Mothers prepare countless meals in their lifetimes, yet nothing tastes better than food made by the hands of someone else. Going out to eat kind of encapsulates all of this. This Sunday, May 8, let someone else prepare a scrumptious meal for your mother or the mother of your children. Tell her you love her with food (without the bread line).

Here are a couple worthy options.

Primo Grill offers Mother's Day brunch and dinner specials. Pastries made in-house, blood orange mimosas, grilled Alaskan King salmon, Harris Ranch rib-eye steak, shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon, a classic eggs Benedict and hand-formed Dungeness crab cakes will be offered at brunch. Dinner features seafood and steak specials.

MOM
Some thought you were wildly wonderful or maybe mildly mad
But for your longsuffering love I am eternally glad
You gave us everything you had
The good with the bad
Attitude you had against failing to try
Always pushing us towards reaching for the sky
You could have given up on me but not seeing my simplicity
You went way beyond belief pulling pearls nuggets from serendipity
One that my peers perceived perhaps prodigiously promethean
As they observed only opting on obligingly obsequious ostentation

Seeing me rise up like a bright shining star
With my background I shouldn’t have gone very far
But it was you mom that encouraged ever egging me on
Even now your strong spirit still echoes ethereally though you’re gone….
