Cancer survivor Randy Everett steals a bit of time from the king with a heartfelt speech on the City of Hope organization's goal of curing cancer through research.
Hope you're there.  Saturday, May 20, 7-10 p.m., $85 dinner show, $45 show only at Ticketmaster outlets of the casino's gift shop, Emerald Queen Casino, 2024 E. 25th St., Tacoma, (253) 383-1572.  â€" Bobble Tiki

There's no drink like Bling-Bling...

BlingblingIn the Broadway smash "Wicked," when the male lead asks, "So â€" what's the most swankified place in town?," good witch Galinda answers, "That would be the Ozdust Ballroom." If the Broadway show were set in Tacoma, she definitely would have named El Gaucho the most swankified place in town. Everytime I walk in, I feel as if a tornado has swept me up and sat me down in a completely different town.
As a monthly payday treat, I glide to El Gaucho's bar and ordered an otherworldly "Bling-Bling" Martini ($100), made with the most swankified, ultra-luxury vodka Stolichnaya elit (which retails for about double of most premium vodkas), Grand Marnier 150 and L'Esprit de Courvoisier.
"Dancing through life, down at the Ozdust, if only because dust is what we come to! And the strange thing: Your life could end up changing, while you're dancing...through!" â€" Suzy Stump

Broken Boy Soldiers

RaconteursToday, at long last, the Raconteurs debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers, finally hits the shelves.  One can only assume this to be a good thing.
The Raconteurs, incase you're in the dark, are four fellas from Detroit, one of them happening to be Jack White. At least that's what they'd like you to believe. In truth, the Raconteurs are Jack White, and three fellas from Detroit about to reap huge financial dividends from being in a band with Jack White. They'd like you to believe the Raconteurs are an equal collaboration between four musicians, but the world will never view this band as more than a side project.
Perhaps they are just that. Either way, the record should be worth purchasing. They'll perform on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" this Thursday, May 18. â€" Matt Driscoll

Kickin' it open

The Kickstand Cafe next to the Grand Cinema in Tacoma off Sixth Avenue has re-opened to serve great coffee and treats â€" and just in time for the summer.  The outside patio is a great place to enjoy the late afternoon shade while sipping an iced coffee.  Also, it's rumored that all-ages shows will be brought back too. â€" Jason de Paul

Sold out in 10 minutes? Really?

When Elton John tickets go on sale Monday, May 22, keep this in mind:
NPR reports: Fans of Madonna, Radiohead and Bruce Springsteen sometimes find that getting tickets for upcoming concerts a little frustrating. Often, within hours â€" or even minutes â€" of tickets going sale, breathless reports indicate the shows have already sold out. But can concerts really sell out in 10 minutes? Slate senior editor Andy Bowers explains. â€" Brad Allen

Bling this

Suzy, our #1 drunk (sorry Ginger), discussed the $100 martini at El Gaucho but fogot to mention these elixirs that cost a lot of lettuce:
The Ultimate Sidecar: Hennessy Paradis cognac, Grand Marnier 150, sweet and sour, muddled fruit ($85);
The Ultimate Margarita: Patron Platinum, Grand Marnier 150, scratch-made sweet and sour, fresh limes ($70);
The Scotsman: Hendrick’s Scottish Gin, laced with Lagavulin 16-year scotch ($26). â€" Jason de Paul
