RON SWARNER: SO FRESH >>>

Ouch. My brain hurts. After overcoming a serious battle with the bug circulating through the South Sound then consuming copious amounts of alcohol last night, my body is thanking me with a throbbing headache and 40-proof, Jamesons-scented sweat. Despite the migraine and my new “eau de hobo” fragrance, I have no regrets. Tacoma showed me a good time last night.

I’d like nothing more than to enrapture you with tales of late-night rambles through Tacoma â€" TwoKoi Japanese Restaurant, Tacoma Art Museum, Dirty Knockers last show and "Fresh Air" at The Robert Daniel Gallery. But the truth is, I'm tired, spent, and watching the first season of Kids in the Hall on DVD. Man, that was a funny show.

Here are a few photos from last night's adventures. I've posted them all on our Photo Hot Spot.Fresh-Air-17 Fresh-Air-14 Fresh-Air-12 Fresh-Air-8 Fresh-Air-2 Dirty-Knockers-5 Dirty Knockers 3

Bacon Explosion

JAKE DE PAUL: SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AT WOODY'S >>>

Bacon-1 Woody's on the Water co-onwer Thomas Johnson posted the following on his Facebook page:

On Super Bowl Sunday at Woody's on the Water we are featuring the Bacon Explosion, a dish made of bacon, sausage, more bacon and barbeque sauce. For details on this cholesterol packed, extra tasty meat product, check out this link.

For so many years bacon was consumed only as a breakfast meat or wrapped around a big fat juicy beef tenderloin filet. That was its purpose in life, to sidle up to hot pancakes dripping with warm maple syrup or two sunny-side-up eggs, providing the heavenly crunch and smoky flavor the flapjacks and eggs needed. Keeping the filet moist by adding fat content it did not have, bacon enhanced one of America's favorite indulgences.

Through the '90s and up until a year ago, bacon got a bad rap. Too salty for many restricted diets and too many fat calories for others, many Americans suffered through pancakes without bacon, and stripped the beef of its mate.

I, for one, am glad bacon is back.

Hug a Trampire

MICHAEL SWAN: BLOODY HEART DAY >>>

Yes, February has begun and, if you consider yourself a good significant other, you should already have your plans for that lovey-dovey, huggy-wuggy special day solidified. Restaurant reservation: check. One dozen roses: check. Fangs: purchased and ready to go.

Tacoma: The Fab Five

JAKE DE PAUL: SEA GRILL HAS A HEART >>>

Ah, February. The best thing about February is March. Food in February for the average person consists of carbohydrates and canned soup, and as much beer as an already holiday-bloated belly can take. Sausage, too. February could almost get away with being subtitled Sausage Month.

The Sea Grill intends to spice up February with a new bar menu: The Fab Five. All five items are $5 all day, every day. And here they are:

Seasonal Fish Tacos
Fire-roasted tomato tortillas, romaine, chipotle aioli

Rock Shrimp Cocktail
Spicy cocktail sauce

Sea Grill Truffle Fries

Lobster Bisque
Johnny Walker Scotch, organic cream

Bar Caesar Salad

Lisa Lampanelli coming to Tacoma

MICHAEL SWAN: WHAT WILL SHE SAY ABOUT TACOMA? >>>

Lampanelli The Queen of Mean is coming to Tacoma’s Temple Theatre for a stand up show Friday, April 3. The 47-year-old Lampanelli is by all accounts one of the funniest, dirtiest and most irreverent comedians working today.

Tickets are $37.75 at Ticketmaster outlets. They go on sale Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.

Michael Phelps hits the bong

MATT DRISCOLL: LIKE A PRO >>>

In case you haven't seen the photo of Olympic gold medal collector Michael Phelps hitting the bong at a college party last November, here's what everyone's been talking about.

Of course, lots of people hit the bong - and some just use Mt. Dew cans - but when a guy like Phelps gets caught burning one on camera, well, it's bound to cause a stir. And it has.

It shouldn't, really. But it has.

Pick-Quick reopens

STEPH DEROSA: HELL YEAH! >>>

As I mentioned several weeks ago, Pick-Quick Drive In would reopen Feb. 1 after its annual winter cleaning.

It happened, bay-bee!

I can smell the waft of fresh grilled burgers and homemade fries from right here at my Weekly Volcano World Headquarters makeshift desk.  The fact that they moved my desk outside on the patio, instead of in the office with everyone else, makes smelling this sweet re-opening all the more succulent.  Now if only Pappi and Driscoll would return my car, I might sneak up Pacific Highway to Fife for a late lunch.

Does anyone else think it’s odd that they only borrow my car when they plan on having drinks at lunch?

Jerks.
