STEVE DUNKELBERGER: THEATER THURSDAY >>>
My Fair Lady
Federal Way's Centerstage Theater's production of My Fair Lady gets personal as it makes the story of the classic musical about a woman becoming a linguistic lab rat of sorts as her teacher transforms her from a street urchin with a heart of gold into a woman who could pass for a society lady into a story about challenge and love.
[Knutzen Family Theater, through June 1, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, $8-$25, , 3200 S.W. Dash Point Road, Federal Way, 253.661.1444]
Table for One, No Wait
See something different with this staging of a one-woman play at 7 p.m. Friday at King's Books in Tacoma's St. Helens neighborhood. Fionna Larcom will perform her new play, "Table for One, No Wait," which explores one woman's journey through military life and the devastation of war. The event is free.
[King’s Books, Friday, May 16, 7 p.m., free, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma, 253.272.8801]
Shining City
See it now or regret your oversight. Harlequin Production is set to end its run of Shining City, a play that involves a former priest (played by Vincent Brady) who becomes a counselor. His patient John (Anders Bolang) is haunted by the recent death of his wife. The show involves tight language and long monologues as it swings through the emotional roller coaster of life.
[State Theater, 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, $24-$33, 202 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia, 360.786.0151]
