Cities all over the nation are supporting American Express' "Small Business Saturday" campaign, which encourages shoppers to consider supporting their local retailers this weekend, particularly the Saturday after Black Friday. According to Civic Economics, out of every $100 spent on a small business, $68 returns to the community. Nationally, the Small Business Saturday website reports small businesses employ half of all private sector employees. Additionally, the Small Business Administration says, "for every year over the last decade, 60-80% of new jobs were generated by small businesses."
Tacoma and Olympia are ripe with locally owned boutiques, furniture and electronic stores and more. I encourage you to take a look at your Best Buy, Gap or Target list and consider if those same items could be purchased from a local retailer.

If you are signed up with American Express for Small Business Saturday, Pacific Grill is a participating Small Biz where you get a $25 credit from AMEX if you spend money here :)

How come there is no list of the businesses that are participating in Small Business Saturday? Can's support it if I don't know where to go.

I agree with Dave. Do the local businesses really expect me to drive around looking to see if they are participating? And why isn’t American Express listing the businesses that are participating? Everyone the I’s need to be dotted and T’s crossed. A missed opportunity

I think it was more of a "movement" to get people to shop at local shops and restaurants. We didn't really advertise the $25 credit because 1. asking our customers to sign up their amex cards on a website seems a little sketchy. 2. The fine print says the credits would go to the first 100,000 people who signed up on the website. Not knowing what the participation rate was or if the 100,000 have already been used you don't want customers to get mad if they don't get the credit. We were only given a few weeks notice and there wasn't much information on their website. If we had questions we were out of luck.
If you signed up or not we hope everyone got out and shopped and dined local and continue to do so!

From AMEX: This just in! To support small business this holiday season, American Express is extending the offer to give $25 back to Cardmembers who register & use their card at a small business ANY day through 12/31. Register now! All small businesses that accept Amex are automatically enrolled. For everyone else, whatever the form of payment, shop small!
