WORKIN' HARD FOR HIS MONEY >>>
It may not seem like we like our local movie critic, the Rev. Adam McKinney, very much - what, with all those crappy rom-coms and Chris Pine movies we send him to - but that's not actually the case. As he's said himself, there just haven't been very many good movies this year.
This week Mark Wahlberg has a new flick coming out - The Fighter, which also stars the angry-on-the-inside Christian Bale. It's a movie about a washed up boxer with great abs.
And, yes, McKinney will be reviewing it - because there's nothing he likes more than riding the bus to Seattle to see a Marky Mark joint. Trust us. It has nothing to do with whether we like him or not.
Here's a trailer from The Fighter to get you all pumped up.
And here's a clip of some of Marky Mark's best work ever.
News and entertainment from Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s most awesome weekly newspapers - The Ranger, Northwest Airlifter and Weekly Volcano.

"there just haven't been very many good movies this year."
i think that statement is easily rejected. not only just because 'good' is not a specific enough qualitative indicator of evaluating a film.
its either the stories in films were effective enough or not. because very rarely does a perfect story-film get made, but there are plenty out there that get the job done. so before you get picky enough to say a given year was bad in terms of releases, you have to be able to show you've seen enough to make that call. and obviously the volcano hasn't seen jack shit this year.
in the case of the 2010 film year, there were/are plenty emoting and thought provoking films and documentaries released, as well as successful films geared solely to entertain our lizard brain.
true grit hasn't even hit theaters yet for chrissakes. and i haven't seen any reviews on the volcano of 2010 films like "meet the rileys" or "metropia" or "the killer inside me" or "winnebego man" or "get low" or "holy rollers" or "touching home" or "please give" or "middle men" or "the virginity hit" or "mesrine" or "jack goes boating" or "i love you phillip morris" or "blue valentine" simply because your local critics live in a cinema arts starved part of the country. the films that make you decide it was a decent year or not don't even make their way into theaters around the puget sound so how can you make statements as if you know anything about the attempts of american and foreign cinema arts to create 'good' films in a given year? you simply can't and the volcano's record on this shows.

SV,
If you had taken the time to click on the link to the story to which Matt was referring, you would see that I stipulated pretty much all of what you said. But it is not the Volcano's fault that we can't review most of the worthwhile films that come out; it is simply the way that the release of films and their preview screenings are structured. I can't imagine you would know much about that.

check this out dude. here's how that staff writer should have rewritten it so as to not make you look like a total hick posing as an accomplished film critic: "As he's said himself, there just haven't been very many good movies this year IN THEATERS IN TACOMA AND SEATTLE." see the difference? because nowhere did you write that is was a bad year, its just...you have to ride a fucking bus to see cinema arts in the puget sound. wtf? rev, how do you not feel completely behind the power curve there in tacoma?
