TODAY IN PRESS RELEASES >>>
I'm really not even sure what to say about this one ... It's a press release that just trickled in from Sacks & Co, the PR marketing machine behind "Seattle's" Motopony. That's a good place to start. Where the conversation goes from there I'll leave up to you, Gentle Reader ...
PRESS RELEASE
Seattle's rising glitch-folk band Motopony will perform intimate acoustic sets for Southwest Airlines Customers in Baltimore, St. Louis, Dallas and Los Angeles on June 29 in celebration of Southwest Airline's 40th Anniversary. Conceived by Southwest Airlines' advertising partner GSD&M, the "Southwest Airlines 40th Anniversary Tour featuring Motopony," will feature the band flying from city to city, beginning in Baltimore at 7:00 a.m. EDT, creating a concert atmosphere out of the Southwest Airlines terminal in each market. The one-day tour will conclude with a set at Southwest Airlines Baggage Claim in Los Angeles International Airport at 8:25 p.m. PDT.
Southwest Customers will be treated to songs from Motopony's self-titled debut album, available now via tinyOGRE Entertainment. Along the way, Southwest flight attendants will be handing out Motopony swag, and customers will have the chance to win a limited edition tour poster.
Motopony's first album has received early support from the influential KCRW with the band appearing on "Morning Becomes Eclectic" as well as critical acclaim from NPR Music, KEXP, NYLON, AOL Spinner, RCRD LBL and many others. The single "King of Diamonds" was featured as iTunes' Indie Spotlight Download of the Week and NYLON Guys recently premiered the "King of Diamonds" video noting that "with easy vocals and strummy guitar riffs, their self-titled debut is relaxing, invigorating, and downright addictive all at the same time." View the video here: http://youtu.be/ncV8uX4X-HU.
The band is set to tour this summer including dates with Those Darlins along with a free show at Pasadena's One Colorado on June 25 for KCRW's Summer Nights Series. Please see reverse for a list of shows.
Motopony is fronted by lead singer, songwriter, former fashion designer and writer Daniel Blue along with collaborators Buddy Ross, Brantley Cady and Forrest Mauvais. The four-piece group has quickly risen through the Seattle music scene receiving praise from KEXP while Seattle Weekly called them one of the "nine up-and-coming bands at the heart of Seattle's music scene" and Tacoma's Weekly Volcano named them "Tacoma's Best New Band." Additional info on the band is available at www.facebook.com/Motopony.

I dunno...sounds kinda cool to me. How many other bands have played 4 shows across the country in one day?

This wouldn't have pissed my off because normally motoPHONY just make me laugh but to hear they are going to be associated with Those Darlins, a band with good songs, is just too much. then again the comedy at LAX baggage claim may make up for it. Hope they perform their hit: I lost the bag that carried my latest gimmick

Oh God. If I had to sit through Daniel Blue attempts to connect with the audience while I was tired and waiting in an airport I would feel helpless and angry at whoever was to blame. That nasally voice might be the final straw.

motophony are an unintentional self-parodying gift from the comedy gods. Also, is it the bubonic, or is that really a big brown cookie monster standing to the right of DB in that photo?

Low Bar,
"Motophony" is hilarious. You're hilarious.

Rev,
If it's so funny why am I in agony over all these fucking idiots? I am fucking le tired of seeing D listers masquerading the fuck about. Yeah motophony at one point were A list in Tacoma, but the fucking city is a D list city! So if you think you're hot shit in Tacoma, please please please think again. And its not the music critics you have to worry about, its your peers. Abe Vigoda can kick the living shit out of Motophony on stage without even touching an instrument.

Low bar rules. He's a comedian. I bet he hates the Nightgowns as well.

Daniel Gerding is a charlatan. He's no dummy, just a fraud. Hook up with the right lawyer, the right millionaire, the right talent to surround yourself with and you too can get signed up to be Southwest's puppet band for a day. Mr. Gerding, the Prince of Bonney Lake, play your two string guitar all the way to the top. Meanwhile the rest of us will work hard, craft our songs, tour the coasts and take the harder yet higher road. Maybe one day I'll see if you want to roadie for us. Have fun re-inventing yourself yet again!

Its always funny how people like Low Bar, hate on others who are living out their dreams. But the one good thing about setting the bar low on life is it doesn't hurt so bad when you fall on your ass, but then again with your type of comments im sure you never try anyting that would lead to a fall.
low bar said on Jun. 26, 2011 at 1:19pm
what does falling have to do with fraudulence? hahahahha. if your dream is to be that transparent of a huckster, then i believe DB truly is living out his dream, as you suggest. it's just that some of us fall but then land on more honest feet.
Rev. Adam McKinney said on Jun. 26, 2011 at 2:27pm
People, can we please stop feeding the troll?

that's not the topic here adam. nice try though. if your boss didn't want an opinionated reaction to the story he wouldn't have presented it in such a provocative tone as can clearly be seen. so please shut up adam. you are getting on my nerves. and what happened to the cookie monster photo with motophony and their monty python film like press shots? who you trying to fool with this more austere photo of them? you do realize that a majority of us actually have heard great songs from great performers and can tell the fucking difference right?
