Today's comment comes from cj in response to Matt Driscoll's latest Cup Check column, in which he questions the recent endorsement deals Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has signed.

CJ writes,

I totally agree with you marmar...i mean it all comes down to RACE...he did his time...get over it people...i've heard people say he should never be able to play football again, but you have a white QB that has raped not one but two women, and never served any jail time for it, no one is asking for his head, but the black QB who killed dogs, NOT Humans, didnt rape any innocent women, and who DID go to prison for two years, gets out changes his life and finally putting the pieces of his life back together then people are asking for his head...like marmar said, "Just shut up and look in the mirror LOSERS"

Please read the book "the lost dogs" and get a full, fair and very researched account of what he was involved in and you will understand it has nothing to do with race. it's too bad that has to even be mentioned. Is any of that endorsement money going to the organization and private people that are caring for the abused victims. That would be a great question to ask

I disagree with you CJ and I beleive your comments are outlandish and without substance. Did we forget about O.J.? Didn't he get away with murder. How about Donte Stallworth, who killed a man with his car while posting a BAC of .12? Did we forget about Ray Lewis and his missing sports jacket after the stabbing murder of a man outside of a club? They got away (well, Donte did 30 days but I hardly consider that worth killing someone). Did you forget to bring them up in your argument? You can't say that this is all about race because there is no comparison. Doug Flutie never drowned dogs who didn't cut it in the ring. Steve Largent never placed thousand dollar bets on Lassie to brutally dethrone Snoopy. No, but Michael Vick did. He was a high profile athlete and was made an example of. His race didn't kill the dogs, his hands did. Now, I am not excusing Big Ben from rape. He was guiltly and should have received time (just like you should have received english classes). But, in this case the correct thing WAS done with VIck. He committed a crime and he was punished. It's time to stop using race as a reason why NFL football players are being unfairly punished and start making these same athletes take responsibility for their actions. And you should take reponsibility for your research.
