The Staircase Café is open in Tacoma

A couple of week's ago Sue Kidd of the Trib's TNT Diner announced Gig Harbor resident Sal'An Weyer bought The Old House in Proctor, and would soon re-open it as The Staircase Café.

The Staircase is now open ... for lunch. Dinner service will begin next week.

Today's lunch specials are roast beef with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and glazed carrots, shrimp salad, spinach quiche and more.

My girlfriend and I had lunch at The Staircase the other day and the experience was terrible. The food was bland and unoriginal. The presentation was messy and unappealing, and the service was horrible. We will never dine there again.

I am the new owner of the Staircase Cafe and I am sorry to hear about your experience. As we have had only positive feed back and I personnaly try to talk to all of our guests, I am so sorry you were over looked. Please the next time you are in introduce yourself and I will personnaly make sure you have a positive experience. The Staircase Cafe has a new Chef and he seems to be the perfect fit we were looking for.

My friend and I had lunch at The Staircase recently to try it out because we had always enjoyed The Old House Cafe. We had a Living Social Voucher for the former Old House Cafe and had called Living Social to get a refund. Living Social told us that the new Cafe was accepting them. We also called The Staircase to confirm this. The Staircase Cafe website also stated that they would be accepting them until January 31st. We let our waitress know that we had the voucher when we ordered- she looked confused and told us that they are a new cafe and don't accept them. Then another waitress had us explain the situation and she went into a whole story about how they didn't know what Living Social was and they weren't getting paid to accept these vouchers. Then after the bill came, a third person (maybe the owner) had us explain everything again. They finally accepted the voucher (it was listed on their own website that they were accepting them). However, with all the hassle they gave us (new customers), it ruined our experience. Also, with only an hour for lunch before having to rush back to work- dealing with the staff over the voucher took at least 10 minutes of our limited time together to catch up. The food was presented okay, was a bit bland, the quiche was pretty runny inside. Bits of the lettuce in the salad were brown and slimy. Dessert came with the meal which was nice, but overall the staff showed poor customer service skills. The waitress gave us the bill before serving us dessert without asking us if we wanted any tea or coffee with our cake. Drinking water with cake is not a good thing. Looks like we'll be looking for a new place for our lunch dates.
