Olympia Film Collective (OFC) is relatively new on the scene, but has already made waves with the films The Sweet Sorrow, featuringscenes from Olympia lounges The Brotherhood and Volcano Vapor, and S.O.S, which won Best Film and Best Use of Dialogue at the 2013 Tacoma 72-Hour Film Competition.
"We are still trying to find out who we are," said Jeff Barehand, founding member of OFC. "We are here to help others learn and go forward with their scripts and ideas. It's only going to grow."
Barehand and colleague Russell Brooks were in pre-production on their short film, The Sweet Sorrow, when a search for crew turned up Riley Gibson and Dylan Glockler. OFC was officially born in January 2013.
Since then, the four have attracted members and crew from across the Sound and are wrapping up another film, Lost, this time with scenes from Antique Row in Tacoma.
Lost is the brainchild of Annie Ferguson and Barehand describes the flick as "Alice in Wonderland meets Twilight Zone," about a drifter who falls asleep in an antique shop and encounters strange characters and an interesting twist.
Barehand is in the final editing stages and hopes to premier Lost at the Magic City Film Festival and plans to have showings in both Olympia and Tacoma.
Barehand says Lost is a great example of how the collective can bring people's visions to fruition and credits not only the crew and actors, but also the local businesses that opened their doors to creativity.
"I'm really thankful this area is really great in supporting the arts," he said.
OFC is already working on its next film, Where I'm Calling From, an adaptation of a short story by Raymond Carver. The plot explores a man's journey through recovery when he meets an animated housemate whose stories help him sort through his own.
Casting calls for this film are currently open. To apply for a role, or to learn more about OFC, visit www.olyfilm.com.
