WEDNESDAY, FEB. 19 2014 >>>

1. Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes presents El Sol de Medianoche, Flamenco en Vivo: a night of powerful Spanish flamenco music and dance featuring singer Curro Cueto of Seville and guitarist Jose Vega of Cadiz at 8 p.m. in The New Frontier Lounge. Let the mix of music and traditionally costumed dancing beauty transport you to Spain.

2. Wil Haygood, author of The Butler and associate producer of the award-winning film of the same name, will speak at 3:30 p.m. in Tacoma Community College's Bldg. 2 Auditorium. Immediately following the talk, a screening of The Butler will take place in the Building 11 Student Center at around 6 p.m.

3. Tonight we recommend you attend an event for your enlightenment and edification. And - brother, sister - you don't need to know the wiggly handshake to get in. The Knights of Pythias Commencement No.7 is marking the fraternal order's 150th birthday with an open house and movie screening at its landmark lodge, at 6 p.m. Whether they're responsible for controlling the finances and/or allegiances of power in Tacoma, the local Illuminati (cough) Pythias' lodge is cool with its logos and sigils thick with ancient symbols of mystery and control, the crypto-patriarchal braggadocio of it all. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of Broadway back in the day, we can tell you! During the open house, visitors will have a chance to tour the facility and learn its history as well as view the 1962 classic, Damon and Pythias, which, if memory serves us right, was the prequel to Davey and Goliath. Don't mind the men behind the curtain.

4. Olympia artist Diane Kurzyna will be giving a free artist talk at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library at 7:30 p.m. Known as Ruby Re-Usable, she'll be discussing her art and how she promotes it.

5. Hempfest tryouts continue at Jazzbones at 8 p.m. Hear local bands rock the joint.
