The Weekly Volcano just received a call from Oakbrook Golf & Country Club that Hell's Kitchen music director Flash and Seaweed guitarist Clint Werner were just yelled at by the club pro for having their shirts untucked.  It's almost worth the drive just to see Flash with his shirt tucked in.

This weekend â€" Saturday at the High Dive in Seattle and Sunday at Bumbershoot â€" marks the heroic return of one of the greatest bands in the history of Tacoma.

Seaweed!

That’s right. It’s true. Seaweed is back. If there’s been a more anticipated event in Tacoma music in the last few years, I can’t recall one. Since their demise, Seaweed has been immortalized as a South Sound dark horse, a band Tacoma can proudly hang its hat on, and a band that knew nothing but the disheveled 253 punk rock they perfected. While it’s easy to lump Seaweed in with the NW music scene of the ’90s, there’s something completely unique about the band. Seaweed is not Mudhoney. Mudhoney is from Seattle.

Bobble Tiki is a feminist, meaning he believes in equal opportunity for both males and females. This being said, Bobble Tiki can’t wait for “Win A Penis Enlargement Wednesdays,” which seems like the next rationale step in South Sound entertainment.

BOBBLE TIKI'S THREATS AND PROMISES COLUMN
Bobble Tiki has always had a warm spot for standup comics. Not many people know this, but for a while in the ’80s, during a lull in Bobble Tiki’s life that started just after college and didn’t end until June 24, 1994 â€" the date of Bobble Tiki’s first Zima â€" Bobble Tiki dabbled in comedy. Bobble Tiki stayed up late into the night working on bits and one-liners, sure that one day his unique sense of humor would set the comedy world ablaze. 

If Rory Scovel has one thing going for him as a comedian, it’s one thing that Tim Allen, Carrot Top, Sinbad, and Paula Poundstone wish they had.

Horses. They’re all the rage these days.

Of course, I’m not actually talking about real life horses, they’ve been around forever and most likely aren’t going anywhere soon â€" though they’re also not likely to experience a renaissance either.

They’re horses.

What I’m talking about is bands naming themselves after horses â€" in one way or another. There’s Band of Dead Horses, Horsefeathers, even Horse the band.

Horses are everywhere.

One such band â€" They Shoot Horses Don’t They? â€" most likely named after the 1969 movie of the same name â€" will play Le Voyeur in Olympia on Saturday, Sept. 1.  Perfect for Olympia, They Shoot Horses Don’t They knows their way around a good beard, a good musical experiment, and (obviously) a good band name.

This is probably why K Records decided to work with them. Though this band of Horse shooters (there are eight of them) calls Vancouver, B.C. home, K released the band’s debut record Boo Hoo Hoo Boo in February ‘06, and Pick Up Sticks â€" a 10 song collection of oompa meets horns meets strange â€" in July of this year.   

Both records are good stuff, unless, of course, you’re a horse.

Check out They Shoot Horses Don’t They? at Le Voyeur this Saturday. Part of the fun will be listening to the creative licks of these Canucks, and part of the fun will be just watching them all try to fit into Le Voyeur. â€" Matt Driscoll
