Weekly Volcano Twitter Stalker

The Weekly Volcano follows weed-smoking, twitter-happy celebrities because it's funny>>>

Just like most good, new-age, social media applications, Twitter allows people to share and be privy to once personal, almost wholly pointless information about peoples' lives. It's seemingly endless. While Twitter is mostly full of everyday, ho-hum people - just like you and me, sharing info about what type of oatmeal we ate for breakfast and where we get our hair cut - Twitter is also a magnet for the moderately-famous.

Stars of yesterday, illiterate millionaire athletes, former cast members of Saved By the Bell - you can follow them all, intimately, on Twitter.

But, you've got standards. We get that.

That's why we'll do it for you, in a feature we like to call Weekly Volcano Twitter Stalker.

Sale to benefit artist Mark Rehmar

FINE WOODWORK ON SALE >>>

The Art Stop inside LeRoy Jewelers has carried award-winning Oregon woodworker Mark Rehmar's wooden boxes since they opened. Sadly, Rehmar has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and must liquidate his studio quickly.

Because we recently hosted a show with Mark, I have a sizeable collection of his work which I am now offering at a 30% discount," wrote The Art Stop co-owner Phyllis Harrison on the TacomaArt listserv. "My inventory includes four glass-topped side tables ($575-$740 before discount), watchboxes ($495-730 before discount), one sliver/flatware chest ($1100 before discount), and a beautiful selection of jewelry boxes and desk/dresser top boxes ranging from $150-$1200 before discount. If you appreciate fine woodworking or know someone who does, please come take a look and help me spread the word. The gallery has reduced its commission on these sales to help generate funds for Mark. I am truly trying to help an artist and a friend. Thanks."

PHOTOS: Urban Art Festival 2010

Linda and Jennifer hula hoop in front of the DJ shack at the Urban Art Festival.

SO THAT WAS FUN >>>

Tacoma rockers, hippies, hip-hoppers, drunks, kids, homeless, bicyclists, people wearing the Weekly Volcano's Best of Tacoma 3-D glasses, and even some artists converged on People's Park yesterday during the Urban Art Festival. Battling the Taste of Tacoma - and a few raindrops - a decent size crowd enjoyed a day of amazing live music, professional DJs, the Tempest Lounge's booze garden, talented face painters, and a true mix of people. Most agreed, it was a fun day to hang out with friends and listen to great music. UAF organizers Johanna Gardner, Mandi Webster-Martin and Lisa Fruichantie created a nice vibe.

Speakeasy Arts Cooperative needs your help

CAN YOU DONATE A FEW DOLLARS? >>>

Nestled in the middle of a packed weekend of events in Tacoma, the Speakeasy Art Cooperative in downtown Tacoma held a fundraising event Saturday night called "LUNAR Party." It was poorly attended. Now, according to the Trib's GO Arts blog, the Speakeasy has a utility bill it can't pay.  Read the blog post here, and click on the donation button if you can help save the art space.
