ALERT >>>

MoveOn, a political action group, will host a "Stand for the Dream" rally at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at downtown Tacoma's Fireman's Park. Tomorrow marks the two year anniversary of Citizens United v FEC - the Supreme Court's decision that enables special interests - including foreign governments - to sway elections with money.

What can you expect at the rally?

According to MoveOn Tacoma host Janet S., "The street theater will be powerful - professional stage hands and actors are members of Occupy Tacoma and Bill Moyer of the Backbone Campaign is sending a beautiful Bill of Rights to lead the parade. Corporate robots will be dancing and speaking and Supreme Court justices will address the Citizens United ruling. Special guests will include We the People and Representatives (around 4 p.m.)."

The closing?

"... an incredible closing event in lights that will dazzle the human spirit," promises Linda Frank of Washington Public Campaigns.

As part of the Occupy movement, I realize that getting corporate and billionaire money out of politics is key to getting a government for the 99% instead of the 1% who own most members of both parties of Congress right now. Tactically speaking, though, I feel the way to make the change is not to go back to many of the same corrupt incumbents who have been blocking real campaign finance reform and public campaign financing, and expect them to vote for a Constitutional Amendment that would regulate where a majority of their campaign donations come from. The way to get money out of politics is to use our social networks to replace bribe-inducing TV ads and elect pro-99% candidates who refuse corporate money and promise to vote to ban corporate campaign contributions. We need different politicians to pass different laws and create a system that works for the 99%. That's why I like the ten "fresh democracy" candidates who launched this week with www.BeYourGovernment.org . We need hundreds like them. THEY will VOTE TO AMEND in January 2013. Not the corporate bought politicians we have in Congress now.

BeYourGovernment.org supports the important policy objective of the Move to Amend effort, to end the corruption of our political system by huge corporate donations. We feel that the most immediate and effective way of bringing about this essential change is for we, the people, to use our social and personal networks to become, and support, Congressional candidates who run without corporate money. A core transparency question for all candidates is whether they will vote for an end to corporate funding of campaigns, and public campaign financing. We believe that electing many new members of Congress who refuse corporate donations can help Move to Amend build a Congressional majority to get the buck out of the ballot once and for all.

I am a member of golf's 99%. I play golf, but have not yet made it to the professional level!! I have played the game for over 40 years, but have not really put in the practice time and study to be the best. I also probably do not have the skills to really get there either. However, I now feel that I should be paid by the successful professionals for trying. It isn't fair that those players who have worked harder, have studied the game, have better equipment and are stronger and more skilled should make all that money. Oh sure, they have their charities that they give millions of dollars to, but I am sure that they write all that off on their tax returns to reduce paying their fair share. Is that fair? They should pay for my golf, buy me new equipment and pay me some of their winnings. The whole system should be changed to accommodate people like me!! Let's occupy a golf course and demand that those who are better at what they do pay for us who aren't as good. Whining should get us something, like media attention and sympathy from liberals!!
