TODAY

The South Sound is about to be kissed, pinched, and Irish-fied - or at least sloshed. St. Patrick's day is upon us, and the region will be partying accordingly. Many of the events happened Saturday, but for those dedicated green beer-loving folks out there, there are parties today.

In terms of special beer notes today, Harmon Brewing Co. will be offering its Jameson Oak Soaked Black Tartan; Farrelli's Wood Fire Pizza joints will be serving Guinness concoctions and The Red Hot has Backwoods Brewing Log Yard IPA, Pelican Brewing Irish Handcuffs Stout and a fresh cask of American Brewing Breakaway IPA on the hand pump today. Sláinte.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19

The craft-brewing industry has been around long enough now that some of the older beer makers - the ones that can remember being called "microbreweries" - have started celebrating their histories. Great Divide Brewing Company celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer. The Denver based brewery's 17th and 18th anniversary ales were oak aged imperial IPAs, with the brewery followed up with a 19th anniversary American strong ale with birch syrup. Great Divide will celebrate its 20th Anniversary with a Belgian-style ale brewed with Viognier grape juice.

Why wait until June to start celebrating Great Divide's 20th Anniversary? Pint Defiance hosts the brewery for a tasting Wednesday. The beer store will pour tastes of Lasso, an IPA brewed with a robust roundup of Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops; Nomad, a spin on the classic Bohemian Pilsner; and the 9.5 APV Pablo's Espresso with its vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop profile.

The Great Divide tasting runs 5-7 p.m.

SATURDAY, MARCH 22

7 Seas Brewing will unleash its new fancy glass growler made in Germany at 11 a.m. Saturday. Fresh Northwest Design in Gig Harbor decorated them, which are priced at $60 and come with a coupon for $2 off your next growler fill. According to a news release, "On Friday the 21st growlers they will become available to those whom have last years 2013 edition and would like that same #. So, for that one day, the growlers will be held for those who would like to claim that same # (1-500), then on Saturday all growlers are up for sale to all. If you plan on claiming the same # on Friday, please bring either the 2013 growler itself or a picture with the # clearly visible."

Hope your day includes a beer. ...
