Before you Fall Out Boy

FalloutboyNot a comedy act per se, but still a reliable source for unintentional yuks. Emo-wusses Fall Out Boy tie up traffic around the Dome tonight. Their tunes are mostly solid, but so were the Backstreet Boys - once. Before heading out to the show, pump yourself up with this Fall Out Boy video. - Brad Allen

Freecycle

Freecycle is an online win-win situation. People who have stuff they want out of their lives post their goods online, then people who are looking for free stuff can search through tons of listings to make their life complete. It's like a giant free box of stuff.  All this occurs in cyberspace, but this weekend at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, Freecycle steps into the real world at the Pierce County Livable Communities Fair Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Freecycle's goal is to save items from reaching the landfill while creating community. Fair organizers estimate 15,000-20,000 people will attend this environment friendly and knowledge-increasing event. Plus, Ciscoe Morris, the madcap master gardener, will be broadcasting live on KIRO 710, which is sure to add more fun and hilarious mirth. Admission and parking is free, but do the right thing and bring a canned food item for the Rescue Mission. The Freecycle booth will be located on the first floor of the Pavilion and manned by area volunteers. Enter the Gold Gate entrance at Ninth Avenue S.W. and Meridian, Puyallup. - Jennifer Johnson

ABC of LKN

Lkn_1Reminiscent of PJ Harvey, experimental noise rocker Lauren Kathryn Newman - aka LKN - is a one-woman dynamo whose music is energetic, intense, and aggressive. The multi-instrumentalist records solo - playing all instruments and writing all songs - but gathers up a makeshift band for her explosive live gigs. The Portland-based musician first grabbed the spotlight when she formed the Florida punk band Stellamarie in the summer of 1999 with longtime friend and bassist Sarah Highnote. A combination of LKN's first four-track solo outing, You and No One Else, and the band's self-titled debut in 2001 leads her to play several festivals, including SXSW.  LKN's sophomore release, 2004's In the Leap Year, was another gritty example of her raw energy as she raced through three high octane instrumentals with a feedback focus.  Television's Richard Lloyd lent a fiery guitar solo to the bluesy track "To Bring You My Love."  When Newman isn't recording or performing, she pounds the skins for several bands including, Portland's Avenue of the Strongest, Boston's Yellow Fever Sweethearts, and Pensacola, Florida's GGJOE.  Stellamarie released its second disc, 10 Songs, earlier this year to stellar reviews across the board, and Newman's new record, titled Postulate, is due out April 11.  Saturday, April 8, 9 p.m., Le Voyeur, 404 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. - Tony Engelhart

Bread report

The brave Weekly Volcano staff took part in a free food Monday at the opening of Panera Bread in the Lakewood Towne Center near Target.  The early report indicates this is a winner.  Try the potato soup.  You still have time to get $12 in free food today. - Jason de Paul
