Egg-citing

Certain traditions adapt themselves as time travels on. Take the Easter egg hunt. It was fun when you were a kid - watching your parents crawl around, trying to hide a bright pink egg behind a sprinkler head. And there was always the added joy of finding one (hopefully unbroken) three months later. But now you're a parent, and well, its lost its charm. Or has it? The lovely folks at the Puyallup Rec Center Tracy Aviary host an Adult Flashlight Egg Hunt Friday night. You can now have an egg-ceptional (no, really, ceptions of eggs) time hunting for the eggs hidden on the Puyallup Rec Center ball fields.  Maybe someone will even paint your face.  Friday, April 14, 10 p.m., 18 and older, $3, Puyallup Rec Center Ballfields, 808 Valley Ave. N.W., Puyallup, (253) 841-5457. - Suzy Stump

Concrete Garden

The City Of Tacoma's downtown public plaza next to the Courtyard by Marriott on Pacific Avenue will open next month, according to a city insider.  The outdoor gathering spot will feature a grassy knoll perfect for outdoor concerts and enjoying a summer lunch.  The other 11 months bring an umbrella. â€" Ken Swarner

If these walls could talk

LifesizechocolateroomsYou practically swoon when a waiter walks past you with triple-layer chocolate cake. You have to inhale a few times before you even bring your fork near a plate of anything drizzled in warm chocolate, and the scent of brownies baking means an automatic smile. Sure, it'd be great if cocoa could tickle our noses constantly, but who wants to walk around smelling like a Kit Kat? Now, thanks to the folks at Food Is Art in the UK, we can have our cake and . . . er . . . smell it, too.
For about $4,500, Food Is Art will build an "interactive and edible" chocolate room for you, complete with chocolate chandeliers and sugar wallpaper.  Wonka would freak (or does Charlie Bucket and Grandpa now run it?). - Suzy Stump

Wine and free movies

The New York Times reported last year about a new trend that may find its way to bars in the South Sound - it's called movieoke, and it combines karaoke with clips from popular movies. Would-be actors take the stage, microphone in hand, and act out a scene from their flick of choice, all the while the script scrolls by on a teleprompter and the movie plays on the screen behind the actor.
I perform movieoke every time I drink wine with my television.
"You talkin' to me?"
"Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
"Ah, hon, ya got Arby's all over me."
Anyone?  Anyone?
When I heard Winestyles Wines and Gifts and Wine Bar screens free movies at its Pearl Street location you can imagine my glee.
Well, do ya, punk?
There will not be a handsome man representing an unpronounceable vineyard in a country I can't quite pinpoint to make me realize how little I know about wine - and the etiquette. I will not spit it into the bucket after swishing it around like Listerine. Nope, I'm going to swill and chat up the movie.  If you're hoping to relax, sip and take in "Brokeback Mountain" Saturday at Winestyles - forget it, sister.
"Don't try and fool me no more, Ennis. I know what it means. Jack Twist. Jack Nasty. You didn't go up there to fish." - Suzy Stump

Primitive Tokyo garage disco

Exgirl3Ex-Girl is an all-girl Japanese music trio who plays a great mixture of Casio-techno-pop-o-punk and sings in different vocal styles (from shrieking punk diva banshee to cute girl to almost operatic vocals) with strange harmonies.  This wacky female trio from Tokyo sings like Andy Warhol paints and delivers it on stage like cartoons.  The result is an inspired mix of musical invention and pop playfulness that's like nothing else you'll see this week.  Sunday, April 16, 9 p.m., $6, The Clipper, 402 E. Fourth Ave., downtown Olympia, (360) 943-6300. - Brad Allen

Wine and a rub

Truth be told, my callow palate can't tell the difference between a glass of Bordeaux and a glass of Bud Lite, which is why the wine will not be the reason why I attend the Ladies Spa Day at Bacchante Wine & Essentails April 30.  Nope, it's all about the manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, acupuncture, tarot card reading, Cookie Lee jewelry and a Smashbox makeover.  The services cost from $10 to $35 each and are performed by local small businesses. Of course champagne and wine will be available. No reservation needed.  A Men's Day is scheduled for May 13. Sunday, April 30, noon to 4 p.m., $10-$35, Bacchante Wine, 606 N. Prospect St., Tacoma, (253) 573-9463. - Suzy Stump

Doug and Lynn tie the knot

Bobble Tiki never attend weddings for the food, or for the entertainment. Both are usually about as dry as a Dame Maggie Smith film. Not the case when former Volcano scribe Doug Mackey and Lynn celebrated their marriage with family and friends Saturday at his former house in the northern of Tacoma.  The informal reception offered foods from around the globe, although Bobble Tiki was diasappointed with the lack of barbecue since the two now live in Texas.
Those  who know Doug wouldn't be surprised that the musical entertainment consisted of another impromptu jam in the basement.  Although the lamps and Tacoma memorabilia reside in eight boxes, the instruments are still down there where Mackey, Evan Purcell, Eric Perdue, Heather Lum and others performed songs from their past bands including Cause And Effect, Moonyard, Prarie Dogs, Mister Blackwatch and a few treats from Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin and "Sweat Leaf" by Black Sabbath.
The Weekly Volcano wishes Doug and Lynn the very best. - Bobble Tiki
