Volcanoblastart EAT
30th Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner
While we sit inside our homes, sipping eggnog and feeling all warm and fuzzy as we give thanks for the blessings of the past year, it's easy to forget that there are hundreds of people in the South Sound who would be grateful for a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in at night.

Emergency Food Network's annual community dinner is a feast for those in need, with a free holiday meal provided to all who attend.

All the volunteer positions have been filled.  So cool. â€" Suzy Stump

[Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 2727 E. D Street, Tacoma, 253.584.1040]

FILM
"No Country for Old Men"
Regards a completely evil man with wonderment, as if astonished that that such a merciless creature could exist. He is Anton Chigurh (Javiar Bardem), who travels Texas and kills people with a cattle stun-gun. He is one strand in a plot involving a drug deal gone bad. Another is a sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) and a third is a hunter (Josh Brolin), a poor man who comes across $2 million in drug money. A masterpiece based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, written, directed and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen. As good as their “Fargo,” which is saying something. Full review here. Rated R. Four Stars â€" Roger Ebert

[The Grand Cinema, $4.50-$8, 4:05 p.m., 6:45, 9:20. Also Fri-Sun 11:50 a.m.]

FILM
“Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead”
Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke play brothers who conspire on a “victimless crime” with dire consequences, in one of the year’s best thrillers â€" and films.  Co-starring Marisa Tomei, Amy Ryan, Rosemary Harris; one of the best films by the cinematic treasure Sidney Lumet. Full review here. Rated R. Four stars â€" RE

Breakfast with Bobble Tiki

Breakfastthanksgiving THE DAILY WORD
Learn it, use it, spell it

Bibulous \BIB-yuh-luhs\, adjective:

1. Of, pertaining to, marked by, or given to the consumption of alcoholic drink.
2. Readily absorbing fluids or moisture.

USAGE EXAMPLE: While it's too early to tell, Bobble Tiki assumes his Thanksgiving will be spent sitting on his can, soaking up pigskin, and slurping down gravy.  Of course, Thanksgiving at the Tiki house will be bibulous, but that's kind of a given at this point.

THE MORNING NEWS

PIERCE COUNTY: Council says don’t do drugs.

IRAN: Nuclear?

FLORIDA: Not so Freebird.

LONDON: That’s a lot of dough.

Today is Thanksgiving, meaning there won't be very many shows to go see or bars open to go get drunk at.  Usually, a day without bars and music would send Bobble Tiki into a deep depression, but not Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is Bobble Tiki's kind of holiday.  It revolves around gluttony, and is made that much better by football on the tube. Three games should be enough to keep the Tiki household glued to the TV, and keep Bobble Tiki out of those awkward family interactions that usually taint the holiday experience.  Brett Favre and the Packers will visit the Lions in the morning. Tony Romo and the Cowboys will take on the lowly Jets in the afternoon.  And in the evening Peyton Manning and the Colts will take on the Michael Vick-less Atlanta Falcons.  All in all, it should be one hell of a Thanksgiving.

Breakfast with Bobble Tiki runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  Deal with it.

Post Thanksgiving at the Monsoon

You pigged out, didn’t you? First the turkey, then the stuffing, and of course the cranberry sauce . . . and who could resist the sweet potatoes with the little marshmallows? Now look at you, sitting on the couch with your pants unbuttoned, swatting helplessly at the bottle of Tums on the table.

"What do you get when you guzzle down sweets, eating as much as an elephant eats? What are you at, getting terribly fat? What do you think will come â€" of â€" that? I don’t like the look of it. Oompa loompa doompety da."  We’ve got a good suggestion for you.

Burp your way over to The Monsoon Room tonight at 8 p.m. for spoken word by Justin Hosea, Lonesome Shack Blues with Ben Todd and DJ Broam spinning behind two turntables. â€" Suzy Stump.

This is what we like to drink there.

Volcanoblastart ART
Ho! Ho! Blow!
Today and Saturday the Museum of Glass hosts Ho! Ho! Blow!

While it sounds innocent enough, this event will bring out the competitive sides of the blowers, when representatives of the West Coast glass-blowing community will pit themselves against the East Coast.

Today, the East Coast Team comprised of Deborah Czeresko, Skitch (aka Nick Mannion), Nancy Callan, Darin Denison, Becca Chernow, Jason Christian and Erica Rosenfeld will attempt to blow the world’s largest ornament.

Tomorrow, the West Coast Team, which includes the Museum of Glass resident team comprised of Ben Cobb, Alex Stisser, and Gabe Feenan, as well as Josie Gluck, Dan Friday, Sue Clark, Sam Decker, and Patricia Davidson, will blow the East Coast away â€" literally â€" as they blow a bigger and better ball.

At the end of all the fun and games and “my balls are bigger than yours” posturing, the fruits of the hot-winded labors of the artists will be donated to Tacoma’s Festival of Trees, a benefit for Mary Bridge Hospital. â€" Jessica Corey-Butler

[Museum of Glass, Nov. 23-24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., $10, 1801 Dock St., Tacoma, 253.396.1768]

ROCK
Dog Leg Preacher
Formed in 2001 by drummer Jon Fosdick and vocalist/bassist Joe Kurke, Dog Leg Preacher takes metal, shakes it feverishly and spews out music that combines straight-up rock with complex melodies. Fosdick pens the aggressive lyrics that “Captain” Kurke screams at the top of his lungs, while guitarist Chris Moser provides the monstrous licks and multifaceted solos. The band’s two discs, 2001’s #1 and 2006’s Abscess, have both found global success thanks to play on the Internet. â€" Tony Engelhart

[Cedarwood Dome, Nov. 23-24, 9 p.m., $10, 7404 Pacific Hwy. E., Milton, 253.922.5727]

METAL
Hatefist
Hatefist’s Influences range from early thrash and speed to modern day death metal. With a similar vibe to bands like Lamb of God and Death Angel, they offer up screaming guitars and machinegun drumming while Tenwick screams out his vile spew with a vengeance. What used to be a four-piece got a shot of adrenaline when Chuck’s kin, Jason, joined the band. Now they are more dangerous than ever before. â€" TE

[Hell’s Kitchen, with Severus, Lahar, Sok & The Faggots, and Point Blank Range, 8 p.m., $5, 3829 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, 253.759.6003]

Around and around it goes

Claiming to be the largest conveyor belt or Kaiten sushi restaurant in the Northwest, Sushi Revolution is an inexpensive way to sample your way through sashimi (raw slices of fish laid on top of rice), sushi rolls, and tempura (panko battered and deep fried veggies and various seafood).

Chillin’ in front of a food merry-go-round will ease shopping stress.  Full story here. â€" Jennifer Johnson

Light up their lives

Have your kids â€" turkey-stoked, released from school and spinning amok with mounting visions of sugarplums, Barbie dolls and Yu-Gi-Oh! action figures â€" drilled a hole through the roof yet? There's a reason they switch on the holiday light exhibits the day after Thanksgiving, so why not take advantage of the thoughtful gesture? â€" Suzy Stump

SOUTHERN ROCK
The Moss Brothers
Southern rock was huge in the ’70s as bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special and Molly Hatchet took the music of their ancestors and added shades of blues and rock. While the line has gotten blurry these days between what’s country and what’s rock, there is no question that Puyallup’s own Moss Brothers are dedicated to resurrecting the spirit of real Southern fried rock ’n’ roll. â€" Tony Engelhart

Breakfast with Bobble Tiki

Breakfasthobnob112407 THE DAILY WORD
Learn it, use it, spell it

Phantasmagoria \fan-taz-muh-GOR-ee-uh\, noun:

1. A shifting series or succession of things seen or imagined, as in a dream.
2. Any constantly changing scene.

USAGE EXAMPLE: Standing in line at Safeway, trying once again to locate his godforsaken Club Card, Bobble Tiki is always amused by the celebrity gossip magazines, and the phantasmagoria of embarrassing pictures that grace their covers. Just today, Bobble Tiki saw Nick Lachey's bitch tits, Prince Charles' gay side, and Britney's latest blurred out beav shot.  It's a phantasmagoria that makes Bobble Tiki worry a little about where society is headed, but hot-damn if it isn't entertaining.

THE MORNING NEWS

EAST PIERCE COUNTY: Kids run free.

EAST PIERCE COUNTY: Principal runs free.

TEXAS: Ghost town sold on eBay.

RHODE ISALND: With this maple bar I thee wed.

HUSTLER OF CULTURE
You can stand atop the mountain and scream your naked desires to the universe or shed that synapse epilepsy and hug the South Sound today with your fellow man:

MUSIC: Even though the Weekly Volcano's music calendar says Post Stardom Depression is playing Station 56 in Tacoma tonight, Bobble Tiki would like to point out that's not exactly true.  Post Stardom Depression's frontman Jeff Angell (in all his sexiness) and guitarist Kyong Kim will be playing all your PSD hits, but they won't be joined by drummer Joshua Fant and bassist Brent Saunders.  That is, unless something has changed.  If something has changed, Bobble Tiki assumes Tacoma will go berserk with excitement over a Post Stardom reunion, and his editor will provide an apologetic correction for Bobble Tiki's incorrect statements bellow.

MORE MUSIC: What's on tonight.

FOOD: You have to eat while shopping.

Breakfast with Bobble Tiki runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  Deal with it.
