Drop of Water in July

MICHAEL SWAN: ANOTHER ELEMENT THEMED ART AND MUSIC PARTY >>>>

Drop-of-water Synapse overload.

Many visions and ethereal moments and luminous images, experiences and connections and fragile sensory remnants went down during South Sound Collective’s first two Tacoma element themed art and music parties â€" Playing With Fire and Fresh Air.

Drop of Water, the third in a series, will flow into the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum Saturday, July 18 with two stages of sound, several visual performances, drinks, dancing, aquatic art show, throwback swimwear fashion show and more.

Dig Dug, Kassette, Jimmy Hoffa, Big Chuck, Mr. Clean are just a few of the DJs that will be spinning that night.

Tickets are $15 at the door. You can save $5 if you buy them before the show through Brown Paper Tickets.

Cool story

SUZY STUMP: MEET LYNDA MAPES >>>

Breaking-Ground Sometimes you just want to kick humanity. Collectively. All of ’em. Stupid humans. Sometimes you just want to travel back in time and collectively kick your ancestors, too.

Lest you think this is nothing more than a whole lot of misdirected rage, attend Lynda Mapes’ lecture on her book, Breaking Ground: The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and the Unearthing of Tse-whit-zen Village Thursday night at Orca Books. Listen to the incredible tale of the discovery of the largest and oldest Indian village site during construction of a Port Angeles waterfront project.

Guess what the state workers working on the project did after discovering the village?

They kept backhoeing.

Now guess what the Native Americans did?

They forced the project to stop!

Discover how Thursday night.

Get ready for Loud Bones

SUZY STUMP: THE JEWELRY OF NANCY WORDEN >>>

Loud-Bones Here at the Weekly Volcano we have a humble mission. We only want to be your conscience; we only want to influence everything you do. To entertain yourself, that is.

A while ago, we listed an exhibit of jewelry in Orting. We watched you that whole week, and you didn’t go. Shame on you. The bad karma builds. Saturday, we have decided to give you a second chance with a much cooler event. El chance-o numero dos, if you will.

Jewelry artist Nancy Worden incorporates non-traditional materials such as seed pods and plastic hair curlers into her jewelry to tell a story. That’s right, she explores social and political issues in her exhibit, Loud Bones, which opens Saturday at the Tacoma Art Museum. We suggest you attend.

[Tacoma Art Museum, June 27-Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, $8-$9, 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, 253.272.4258]

Taste of Tacoma is funny

JAKE DE PAUL: BACARDI COMEDY CLUB THIS WEEKEND >>>

Oh, to find the perfect wedding of the balmy outdoors and the convenience of food and booze; the conjugal bliss of a wild, starry night and cocktails within easy reach; the joyful joining of a cool breeze straight from nature and Brad Upton dissing politicians?

Welcome to the beautiful world of Taste of Tacoma.

Though billed as the “Ultimate Family Picnic,” we here at the Weekly Volcano prefer our Taste to be filled with booze â€" or at least, the ones with the hottest people â€" and funny people.  The Bacardi Comedy Club will give comedians such as Debbie Wooten, Joe Vespaziani, Rod Long and others a pulpit to swear beneath the sun as drunken people in tank tops feed them crap.  Let the games begin.

Oh yes, there also will be 50 food vendors and 30 food product companies offering their grub for sale, as well as tons of music.

[Point Defiance Park, June 26-27 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., June 28 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., free admission, $10 parking, $3 tastes, beers and wine are extra, 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma]
