MORNING SPEW: Totally Toyota, Gayvatar, Lava Lamp in a centrifuge ...

WHAT WE'VE FOUND TODAY >>>

Obama rolls up his sleeves, literally, and pleads with Congress to move forward on a health care bill.

Totally Toyota: A man in California was finally able to stop his over-accelerating Prius after 20 minutes alongside California State Patrol at 90mph. We didn't even know they could go that fast to begin with.

A chef serves cheese made from his wife's breast milk.

Apparently, there is a trend in some gay nightclubs to have Avatar themed dance parties.

Dumb or clever? The homemade centrifuge:

And a good morning to you.

MORNING SPEW: Academy Awards, Prince Mongo, chit chat kills

THINGS WE'VE FOUND TODAY >>>

A team of scientists has agreed that a giant asteroid killed off dinosaurs and a majority of other species on Earth more than 65 million years ago. We thought that this was old news?

Prince Mongo of the planet Zambodia hangs women's underwear and built mountains of sand at his house.

The FBI's Most Wanted List is turning 60: Thomas Holden, a bank robber and murderer was the first criminal to appear on the list on March 14, 1950.

The Church of Scientology has some members sign billion-year contracts.

In an exhausting long ceremony that snubbed Farrah Fawcett, Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman director to receive a Best Picture Oscar for her film The Hurt Locker. The Hurt Locker and Bigelow beat out her ex-husband James Cameron's Avatar.

Shooting the shit is bad for your health.

MORNING SPEW: iPad release, strong mussels, Palin vs. Snooki ...

WHAT WE'VE FOUND TODAY >>>

The iPad's release date is announced - you'll be able to pick one up April 3.

Booth Gardner goes to the Oscars.

Researchers believe that the fibers, or "threads," that mussels use to stick to the beach possess a structure that one day may be used for coatings in man-made materials that need to be stretchy and hard.

The 9/11 trial may be held in military court, not civilian court in NYC.

Japan won't comply with a tuna ban, even thought the bluefin may go extinct.

Sarah Palin is basically Snooki

What on Earth?

SUZY STUMP: TODAY IN CROP CIRCLES >>>

WhatOnEarth_3D_DVD This just in off the press release wire:

Documentary film producer Suzanne Taylor, of Mighty Companions, Inc., is part of an international community of scientists, philosophers, geometers, educators, artists and farmers who are crop circle experts and enthusiasts.

Their riveting reports and lively discussions were filmed over six summers, affording fascinating ‘insider’ information and opinions about this radically misunderstood phenomenon, in Taylor’s new film, What on Earth? ... Inside the Crop Circle Mystery, a full-length feature film focused on the crop circle phenomenon.

Of course, here at Weekly Volcano World Headquarters we're nearly certain the glyphs are the work of a "higher intelligence" trying to tell us something.

Somebody is out there.

Perhaps we should go ahead and set up an interview with Taylor as the press release suggests.

That said, it should  be noted that we're drunk by noon at least four days a week. This could be skewing our interpretation of crop circles. And it's also worth noting that we adamantly believe in the Tooth Fairy, Dale Chihuly, SpongeBob Square Pants and the Blair Witch Project.

There’s another one!

SUZY STUMP: SPACE IS THE PLACE >>>

Within the constellations of Lyra and Cygnus, a trained eye can spot supernovae, nebulae, red giants, super blue-white giants, binary stars, views of our spiral galaxy and a potential black hole. Tonight is prime time for astronomical entertainment.  With luck, telescopes and a clear, dark sky, stargazers may catch a glimpse of the Perseid Meteor Shower, aka the heavens’ annual summer light show. It’s caused by the Earth passing through a trail of debris left behind by the now-defunct comet 109P Swift-Tuttle.  No relation to Tom of Tacoma.

Perseids meteor shower viewing

SUZY STUMP: STARGAZER NIGHTS >>>

Every so often, on cloudless nights that follow slow traffic days, smog makes a deal with the atmosphere and agrees to cut out early so South Sounders can see those white, twinkling things Midwesterners and mountain purists call “stars.” But apparently billions of these star things are floating around up there every night in patterns that form tangible-looking objects â€" and better yet, it’s freakin’ dark in the mountains.

So load up the kids next Monday and head to Crystal Mountain Hotels, Alta Crystal Resort and the Mount Rainier Cabin Rentals to check out the Perseids meteor shower Aug. 11-14 in the dark woods.

Robert F. Kennedy to speak in Puyallup

Hot air rises. Therefore, if global warming is simply hot air it should rise ... to the top ... of ... public discussion. Which is good. Except the words “hot air” connote something untrue, which means we shouldn’t have to discuss it at all. Especially publicly. Except that we’re trying to decide whether or not it’s true. And we have now confused ourselves.

Robert F. Kennedy â€" you're our only hope.

Pierce College reports: Pierce College Puyallup Student Programs kicks off the 2006-2007 Artist and Lecture series with the author, attorney and defender of the environment Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Theater in Puyallup. "In Our Environmental Destiny," Kennedy will discuss the important role that our natural surroundings play in our work, our health and our identity as Americans. Using examples gathered from relevant art, history, litigation, and literature, Kennedy will remind the audience of their responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for Pierce students.  Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office in Room C210 at Pierce College Puyallup, by calling (253) 840-8416 or Ticketmaster. A book signing and reception follows.

That's hot … air. â€" Suzy Stump

666 Volcano

It's the sixth month of the sixth day of the sixth year of this century, and the Volcano wreaks havoc. â€" Brad Allen

  • AP reports: Officials evacuated 11,000 villagers from around Mount Merapi volcano as it shot out lava and superheated clouds of gas, authorities said Tuesday. More story here.

Science!

Whoever says science is for freaks and geeks who can mentally compute the velocity of their own pee is a big fat liar.  NPR science reporter Ira Flatow offers science for us morons too.  Flatow demonstrates what happens when you put a handful of Mentos candy into a bottle of diet soda then gives a scientific explanation.  Science! - Suzy Stump
