Scanning the newspapers and television Bobble Tiki’s spring has sprung over our popular culture that permits only the smallest debris of originality to poke through and an almost complete lack of self-awareness as a nation.  So Bobble Tiki researched what our nation did the last time all this was going on â€" heavy metal, baby. Penelope Spheeris' 1988 documentary “Decline of the Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years” concerns itself with the emerging Los Angeles punk scene of the late '70s and early '80s, and has taken a left upper cut and body blows for focusing too, er,  heavily on the glam aspect of the metal scene. Not from Bobble Tiki.  With the rise of dense underground metal â€" Mastodon, High on Fire â€" it might be more important than ever to look at glam.  Bobble Tiki needs to escape.  He’s disenchanted with the real word.   Spheeris realizes that escapism has always been the driving force behind metal â€" makeup, leotards and party lyrics.

Legendary keyboardist Billy Preston has died after a long illness.

• AP reports: Billy Preston, who won fame as a joyful singer-songwriter of with Grammy-winning singles "Outta Space," "Will It Go 'Round In Circles" and "Nothing From Nothing," died in an Arizona hospital early Tuesday. He was 59.

 So it's 6/6/06 and Tacoma's Temple Theater celebrates with 3 Inches of Blood, Angelsdevilsghosts, Beautiful Mothers, Beltfed Weapon, Durango 95, Feral, I Defy and Sarah Connor tonight. The Weekly Volcano represent although it's production time for this loser (which is kinda like Miller Time).  So while Matt Driscoll hangs from the rafters and Ginger Knoxx and Natasha fight over the Elvira costume, I'll be spreading secret messages through Thursday's issue tonight.  Don't believe me?  Grab Thursday's issue, hold it in front of a mirror and read the typos.  "One of these days you're going to dance with the Evil Hasselhoff."

Ginger Knoxx, knee deep in the Satan love fest at Tacoma's Temple Theater tonight, reports that she was heavily searched at the door by five cops.  She can't find a drink either.  Her message cut off after she proclaimed the Temple's smoking area the smokiest outdoor area ever. My hell? My wife's watching "Last Comic Standing" and it's atrocious.  â€" Ron Swarner

As reported in the April 26 Spew, the Brickyard, formerly at Washington and 56th Street near South Tacoma Way, has relocated to Lakewood at 6008 Mt. Tacoma Drive in the same center as Goodwill.  Open daily at 11 a.m., they are serving all the basic bar and grill delights.  You may reach them at (253) 584-1775.
In the old Brickyard space, as we reported last week in the Weekly Volcano, Tacoma's own Max Messmer and Jason Matzat, both Wilson High grads, are opening The Factory in early August.  With nearly 10,000 square feet of space, the two story nightclub will boast a 75-foot bar top downstairs with a large stage for live bands and DJs, while upstairs there will be four eight-foot regulation pool tables and a second bar.  The Factory will be open seven days a week. â€"  Jason de Paul
